The Dash across the US – AerialFire Magazine profiled the Dash 8-400AT and Aero-Flite’s plans to fill the need for additional aerial firefighting support in the country with the Type 2, reaching smaller, more remote bases than accessible by larger airtankers, while delivering a similar payload and burning less fuel. Feature Image: The Dash 8-400AT in McCall Idaho 2022 by Jason Pineau – it was the first time in a few years that a large airtanker had landed at the base, situated 5,000′  above sea level with a 6,100 foot runway. The higher elevation and shorter runway means most large airtankers can’t operate out of McCall. The Dash 8-400AT took loads of retardant to the Double Creek Fire nearby, supporting crews on the ground.
